There is also some packages I believe where Level 80 Booster where one item among other, like in a starter pack or some thing. Can't find anything on GW2 wiki about which package it could be or if I just remember it incorrectly. Anyway look at starter packages also in case it could happen to be bundled.
As for gear: The gear you currently have gives you tank stats that are absolutely worthless. For now, it's going to be fine, this game is not known to be punishing. But once you reach the level 80 content, you are going to need more aggressive gear. After all, your trait "invigorating precision" will heal you for all the damage you do.

The new Adventure Guide achievements give out an absurd amount of XP. Before that, 30 hours was about the average, I'd say. Now, map completion in the starter zone will get you into the level 25-30 range within 90 minutes of character creation if you want to. Also, killing mobs is the least efficient way to gather XP in this game.
Due to scaling, the entire world stays a relevant part of gameplay experience during endgame. Because of the fact you cant overlevel any single piece of content, this ensures you can always go back and play in your favorite areas or explore places you might have missed, and still be rewarded (to a degree) for doing it.
So I'm just looking for suggestions on what to do once I hit 80. I play as an Engineer and have really been enjoying it. I'm level 76 now and figure I'll hit 80 sometime tonight after work. Now I know Guild Wars is different then many MMO's and that the journey and exploration isn't close to being over as hitting 80 isn't really the "end game". Pretty much any veteran will tell you to shelf that character and level another one from scratch. The game really isn't easy and not great with giving you directions.
